Pluton processor is coming to Windows PC

Microsoft Pluton processors are being developed to increase the security of future Windows PCs. AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm are working together to create the new processor. The processor will provide chip-to-cloud benefits to PCs, similar to the security features that Microsoft offers to their Xbox and Azure spares.

When the Microsoft Pluton processor hits the market, it will be an alternative to the current Trusted Platform Module (TPM). It is a type of hardware device that stores a cryptographic key on a PC, which is a system to secure the system.

TPM has given Windows PC users a safe computer experience for so long. But cybercriminals use various tactics to target the communication channels between the CPU and the TPM.

From here, they attack the hardware and retrieve sensitive user information. Microsoft is now trying to solve this problem by making pluton.

David Weston, director of the enterprise and OS security at Microsoft, wrote in a blog post that Pluton-based Windows devices will provide protection of important information, including personal information. Data cannot be removed from Pluto. If a hacker or a rogue installs malware or takes over a PC, he will not be able to extract any information.

Pluton processors can isolate sensitive information systems such as encryption keys. It will have Secure Hardware Cryptography Key (SHACK) technology, which will not let data go beyond secure hardware.

This processor will be connected to the Windows update process, so Microsoft will have a special advantage in providing security updates.

Pluton was added to the Xbox One console in 2013. As a result, no pirated games can be played on it. Microsoft later moved them to Azure Spare to keep the Internet of Things (IoT) secure.

In the future, AMD, Intel and Qualcomm chips can be added to the Pluton processor so that the PC will have built-in security technology. The large-scale attacks that the miscreants could have carried out on the PC earlier can be stopped in the future.
