Qualcomm was allowed to sell the chip to Huawei
The US government has approved Qualcomm to sell the chip to Chinese company Huawei. The US corporate company received approval to sell Four-G mobile phone chipset on Friday.
The Trump administration imposed sanctions on Huawei during trade tensions with China. Allowing Qualcomm to sell the chips is seen as an exception to that ban. A report by the news agency Reuters has given this information.
A spokesman for Qualcomm told Reuters news agency: "We have received approval for a number of products. It also includes Four-G products.
U.S. semiconductor makers, including Qualcomm, were forced to stop selling chipsets to Huawei after a U.S. trade embargo was lifted last September.
A Qualcomm spokesman said they had received approval to sell 4G chipsets for mobile devices. Qualcomm's other license applications are still pending with the US government.
Earlier, Huawei used to buy very few chipsets from Qualcomm. Qualcomm is the largest chip supplier in the world. However, most of Huawei used Qualcomm chipsets in affordable mobile phones. Instead, Huawei used its own chipset in flagship phones.
Huawei was forced to use the country's technology in September after a US embargo. The result is to stop producing its own chipset. Technology analysts predict that the chipset reserved for Huawei will run out early next year.
Stacy Rasgun, an analyst at market research firm Bernstein, said the approval of Qualcomm's chip sales would have little effect on Huawei. Because they only got approval for 4-G chip. The world is now chasing 5-G devices. It remains to be seen whether US officials will allow Qualcomm to sell the 5-G chipset.
